IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Foreign Affairs MInister Retno Marsudi on Wednesday said Indonesia has actively engaged in international and multilateral talks to access future COVID-19 vaccines as she said Indonesia fulfills the requirement as an advance market commitment.
“Indonesia will be receiving vaccines for 20 percent of our population along with official development assistance (ODA) financial relief,” said Retno Marsudi in the MoU ratification between Indonesia and UNICEF.
The Indonesian government had actively called for equal access towards safe and affordable vaccines and communicated this to COVAX led by GAVI, the WHO, and the CEPI coalition.
The Minister predicts that the vaccine obtained from the multilateral route will start to be available in 2021 and through the ODA program, she expects the vaccine’s price will be much more affordable compared to the previous partnership mechanism.
Today’s ratification between the government and UNICEF was attended by Minister Retno Marsudi, Health Minister Agus Putranto, and head of the national COVID-19 handling committee chairman Erick Thohir.
