IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The 5.3 magnitude earthquake that hit the East Java city of Malang on Friday morning, October 22, 2021, had reportedly caused damage to a number of buildings in the Blitar regency.
The disaster occurs at around 09: 21 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB), with an epicenter located at 8.84 South Latitude and 112.5 East Longitude, which is around 78 kilometers Southwest of Malang.
According to the Blitar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the quake was felt for at least 4 seconds at Blitar.
Moreover in their report, the rooftop of the local An-Nur Mosque had sustained damage and caused it to collapse. Damages were also sustained by the local art hall, local district office, and one residential house.
Deaths and injuries have yet to be reported by local disaster management teams, which are still gathering data following the earthquake.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in its website stated that the magnitude 5.3 earthquake was caused by a thrust fault of the Indo-Australian plate with the Eurasian plate. The quake was also felt in neighboring regions in East Java.
