11 Indonesians Infected with Omicron Traveled to Turkey, Japan, Korea

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Health Ministry stated that there were 11 new cases of Omicron variant in Indonesia, adding the total to 19 people.

The 11 new infections are imported cases from international travelers. They came home from Turkey, Japan, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. They are currently undergoing quarantine in Jakarta. Listed below is the detail:

1. DAH, male, 58 years old, from Turkey
2. NAN, male, 21 years old, from Turkey
3. SS, male, 53 years old, from Turkey
4. ADS, male, 49 years old, from Turkey
5. NF, female, 59 years old, from Turkey
6. ASPP, male, 21 years old, from Turkey
7. R, male, 33 years old, from Japan
8. AW, male, 32 years old, from Japan
9. RP, male, 40 years old, from Japan
10. W, male, 44 years old, from Japan
11. I, male, 28 years old, from Saudi Arabia

The health ministry’s spokesman for Covid-19 vaccination, Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, said the new finding of Omicron cases was based on the Whole Genome Sequencing test. 

“Especially for the patients who are the travelers that tested positive [for Covid-19], so the mitigation can be executed immediately,” said Nadia in a written statement on Friday, Dec. 24.

She calls on the public to stand guard of the quick transmission of the Omicron variant. Nadia also asks the people to postpone international trips, maintain the health protocol, and immediately get vaccinated.

“There must be a self awareness to refrain from traveling abroad. Especially in the moment of Christmas and New Year’s holidays, it is important for us to protect each other,” Nadia remarked.
