Without delay deal with home rehab concerns in Central Sulawesi: DPD

Palu, Central Sulawesi – Regional Representatives Council’s (DPD RI’s) Committee II warned the Central Sulawesi authority that resolution of issues connected to rehab efforts post-2018 earthquake and tsunami catastrophe are prerequisites to the subsequent rehabilitation fund dispensation by lenders.

” Do not enable one problem to prevent lenders from paying out funds for the rehab efforts post the 2018 catastrophe in Palu City, Donggala, and Sigi,” DPD RI Committee II Chair Lukky Semen mentioned at the Central Sulawesi Governor’s Workplace in Palu on Friday.

The committee chair warned the local authority that financial institutions– the World Bank, Asian Advancement Bank (ADB), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)– would hesitate to pay out the rehab fund if issues on the catastrophe rehabilitation task stayed unresolved.

” A number of problems, such as the provision of land for building and construction of irreversible homes that are currently stalled, must be solved instantly, as irreversible dwellings for earthquake victims are funded by the loan,” Semen highlighted.

The DPD member expressed issue that unresolved issues on the rehabilitation task would lead to creditors choosing to halt the dispensation of rehabilitation fund, thus further stalling the rehabilitation effort.

The rehabilitation job force head, represented by 132 Tadulako Provincial Armed Force Command Territorial Head Colonel Inf. H Rahman T Leho, explained that the issue of land acquisition for irreversible houses stayed unsolved for three years after the earthquake and tsunami catastrophe.

” Land acquisition for the Tondo 2 permanent house complex in Palu is not yet completed, and procurement of 8 hectares of land in Duyu Sub-district is stalled, as the acquired land lies in Sigi District,” the task force head reported.

Colonel Inf. Leho also lamented that those who got the fund, planned for usage in house rehab, typically misused it for other purposes, such as buying standard foods, and did not get their houses fixed.

” Regardless of receiving home repair work stimulus, some home repairs stayed unfinished, as the fund has actually been used for other purposes instead of being used to repair your house,” the task force head pointed out.
