One trainee killed, another missing after flash flood in W Lombok

Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara – One student from the Attamimy Islamic Boarding School died and another went missing after they were swept away in a flash flood at the Tibu Atas Waterfall, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Tuesday.

The two students– Lalu Imam Baihaqi (18) and Samsul Irawan (17)– belonged to a 33- member group from the boarding school that was vacationing near the waterfall in Buwun Sejati town, West Lombok, officials stated.

When the flash flood struck, 2 of their schoolmates were swimming near the waterfall. Hearing their sobs for help, Baihaqi, Irawan, and another trainee rushed to the rescue. Baihaqi and Irawan were swept away, while the other 3 students managed to survive.

A joint search and rescue team discovered Baihaqi’s body, while Irawan stayed missing, Nanang Sigit PH, head of the Mataram Search and Rescue Workplace, verified here on Tuesday.

Both were citizens of Praya sub-district, Central Lombok district, NTB province, he stated.

” The three trainees who survived the flood were right away taken to the nearby university hospital for treatment,” Sigit added.
