Meanwhile, PMI chairman Jusuf Kalla informed that COVID-19 in Indonesia has caused around 140 thousand deaths, while more than 4 million people have been infected with the infection.

For that reason, support of all nations is required to help Indonesia win the battle versus COVID-19, he added.

Although COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are currently reducing– in contrast to the conditions in July 2021 when the variety of new cases reached around 50 thousand each day, the figure is currently down 99 percent as the variety of brand-new cases has reached 500 each day– we still need to be vigilant to deal with the 3rd wave of COVID-19 case spike,” he expounded.

Meanwhile, head of the ICRC local delegation for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Alexandre Faite, stated that the ICRC, together with the PMI, is striving to assist the Indonesian federal government’s COVID-19 response.

” We are thrilled to support the PMI in dispersing the PPEs to various areas in Indonesia. Among the concern concerns consists of the vaccination program in the eastern part of Indonesia as we open several vaccination centers in East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua provinces,” he remarked.

Faite lauded the Netherlands for the contribution and stated he hoped efforts will be scaled up to reach out to more people.

The donation delivered by the Netherlands last September came to the Tanjung Priok seaport of Jakarta and will be transferred to designated Indonesian Red Cross storage facilities across Indonesia, he said.
