MUI global conference on religious beliefs produces Jakarta Statement

Since it teaches universal values, such as human rights and responsibilities, tolerance, equality, and brotherhood.

Jakarta – The International Conference on Religious Beliefs, Peace, and Civilization 2023 started by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) led to the Jakarta Declaration, which consists of religious leaders’ commitment to making faith a source of peace.

This was communicated by the Head of Foreign Relations at MUI Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim at the conference here on Tuesday.

” Acknowledging the growing multidimensional crisis and the increasing hopes of the global community to resolve the crisis, deep consideration and concrete efforts are urgently required to strengthen the transformative function of religion in developing peace and worthy worldwide civilization,” he said.

The Jakarta Statement is the result of discussions and ideas shared by leaders, figures, and specialists from different religions and nations during the conference, he included.

The declaration contains three points. Initially, faith gives transformational mentors, a guide for its followers to live in peace and harmony, as well as a motivation for building civilization.

” Because it teaches universal values, such as human rights and commitments, tolerance, equality, and brotherhood,” the MUI authorities stated.

Diversity is a need. The government and the community must strive to maintain, respect, and protect it, in addition to encourage it to end up being a driving factor in advancing the civilization of the nation.

” For this reason, interreligious consistency must be maintained,” Hakim emphasized.

Third, concrete efforts are needed to strengthen international cooperation in solving numerous disputes through discussion to develop security, maintain peace, and construct civilization together.

” Hence, the individuals of the International Conference on Religion, Peace, and Civilization 2023 are determined to continue to strengthen each other’s spirit of cooperation to recognize those points of the statement,” the MUI official added.

The conference was held from May 21–23, 2023, to encourage tolerance of diversity in addition to add to world peace and civilization. It was attended by 300 participants.

Earlier, while participating in the conference on Monday (May 22), Vice President Ma’ ruf Amin stated that he anticipates spiritual leaders to continue to promote the application of worldwide principles, namely mutual understanding, mutual regard, connection, and cooperation among all countries.
