MPR seeks increased promotive, preventive efforts to prevent stunting

Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of individuals’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat required increase promotive and preventive efforts for stunting prevention by involving stakeholders at the main and regional levels.

According to Moerdijat, efforts to avoid stunting can be begun with the very first 100 days after birth, which is a crucial period for dealing with stunting.

She further kept in mind that the Ministry of Health, at the start of this year, had actually particularly focused on early detection of stunting by taking children’s body measurements at integrated health posts (posyandu).

Moerdijat described that the Ministry of Health recorded that 313,737 units of anthropometric packages are needed to satisfy the requirements of 303,416 posyandu. The government is targeting to meet the requirement for anthropometric packages at 127,033 posyandu this year.

” With the condition of devices that is still limited, the improvement in understanding and skills of health employees and posyandu volunteers is highly anticipated,” she stated.

Moerdijat highlighted that it would be rather difficult to achieve the stunting occurrence rate of 14 percent in 2024 if not supported by the community and stakeholders at the main and regional levels.

” For example, support from personal parties in the kind of offering protein sources for pre-prosperous families is really significant in preventive efforts to deal with stunting,” she stressed.

The MPR deputy speaker expressed optimism that the stunting occurrence target can be accomplished if the community understands that efforts to tackle stunting are vital and end up being a nationwide movement.
