Govt preparing policy to improve Indonesia’s media community

Jakarta – The federal government is preparing a regulation to support the enhancement of the mass media environment and empower the community, Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate notified at the 2022 National Press Day Convention.

” One of the goals of the guideline is to accommodate business and journalism orientation of mass media market. Thus, digital innovations can be optimally advanced and utilized for the advantage of the community,” the minister remarked, according to a news release gotten here on Tuesday.

Indonesia has adequate regulations to expect the development of digital innovation, such as Law Number 11/2008 and its amendment on Electronic Information and Deals, he noted.

In addition, there are likewise Federal government Policy Number 71/2019 relating to the Application of Electronic Transaction Systems and the Communication and Informatics Minister Regulation Number 5/2020 concerning Electronic System Management on Personal Scope, he said.

The federal government will continue to push for more regulations that can assist sustain cooperation among mass media, publishers, digital platforms, as well as the media environment in Indonesia, Plate added.

Currently, the government is preparing the legal framework to recognize quality journalism, he notified.

The structure will also control the duties of digital platforms by considering the draft on publisher rights sent by the Press Council and the Media Sustainability Job Force.
