Govt focuses on well-being method in dealing with Papua, West Papua concerns

Jakarta – The federal government has prioritized well-being, anthropological, and evaluation techniques in managing the issues in Papua and West Papua.

Deputy V for Political, Legal, Security, and Human Rights of the Presidential Staff Office Jaleswari Pramodhawardani said that the methods were directed at increasing the welfare for dealing with the primary problem affecting the provinces of Papua and West Papua.

” President Jokowi has actually embraced the welfare method through various types of development. The problem that arouse in Papua to date is (the absence of) well-being, marked by the least expensive human development index in West Papua,” Pramodhawardani noted in a statement here on Tuesday.

Pramodhawardani said that before the application of the one-price fuel oil policy, Papuans had to pay a greater cost for fuel oil as compared to those in Java and Sumatra.

The HDI in Papua increased, from 57.25 percent in 2015 to 60.84 percent, whereas the index in West Papua increased, from 61.73 percent in 2015 to 64.7 percent in2019
