IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Indonesia received 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine donated from the Australian government on Thursday, September 2.
“Alhamdulillah, we again received 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine which are dose sharing obtained from the Australian government,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in an online press conference broadcasted via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Thursday, Sept. 2.
Retno said it was the first batch of the Australian government’s plan to provide support for 2.5 million doses of vaccines throughout 2021. Besides, Australia had also donated AU$77 million to Indonesia to purchase vaccines.
The vaccine support, she added, was the result of intensive discussions between President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and also the result of communication with the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“President Jokowi and Prime Minister Scott Morrison regularly hold communication by phone, and the last one was on June 24, 2021. The Indonesian government expresses its gratitude to the Australian government and the people for their support for cooperation in handling Covid-19,” said Retno.
