BMKG warns of high tides, tidal floods along coasts of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Firm (BMKG) has alerted of potential tidal flooding along the northern and southern coasts of the islands of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara over the next few days.

BMKG deputy of meteorology Herizal stated in a written declaration on Thursday that the tides might be 4 meters high in the Java Sea and exceed 4 meters along the southern coasts of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara in between Friday and Sunday.

Herizal said the brand-new moon, which will appear next Sunday, was among the aspects behind the high tides, along with strong and relentless east monsoon winds taking a trip at 25 knots or 46 kilometers per hour.

Moreover, the firm also predicted that rain would fall on Jakarta, Cilacap in Central Java and the southern coast of Java in the next three days.

The rain could increase the level and period of the tidal floods.

” After 3 days, the tide level will gradually reduce as the wind speed also decreases,” Herizal said.

He called on people who operated in ports and coastal locations to be on the lookout for indications of floods.

” Particularly in beaches where the ground has low elevation, such as the northern coast of Jakarta, Pekalongan, Semarang and Demak in Central Java and the northern coast of East Java,” he stated.
