IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The National Police revealed that three social media accounts received a warning for making online hate speech by the virtual police that has been activated following the issuance of a circular of the Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
“We sent the warning to three accounts yesterday,” said the National Police Head of Public Relations Insp. Gen. Argo Yuwono in his office, South Jakarta, February 24.
Argo made an example that one of the account owners got a warning for writing a potential hate speech related to the presidential term. However, he stopped short of mentioning the account’s identity.
When members of the virtual police detect such posts, they will immediately make a report to their superiors. The posts will then be submitted to a number of experts, such as linguists, criminal experts, and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) experts for opinions.
Later, if the post or tweet has the potential for criminal acts, it will be reported to the Directorate of Cyber Crime. After the official agrees, the officer will send a warning to the account owner.
“We write the warning like this, for example, ‘virtual police alert 1, your Twitter content uploaded on February 21, 2021, at 15: 15 WIB has the potential for hate speech. To avoid further legal process, we ask you to immediately correct your social media content right after you receive this message’,” Argo explained.
Argo said that the virtual police were expected to minimize the spread of hoaxes or false news and post-truths in cyberspace.
