Vice President Wants Indonesia to Be Largest Halal Producer in 2024

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin targeted Indonesia to be the world’s number one producer of halal products in 2024. He viewed that Indonesia has the potential to reach the goal with its huge domestic consumers.

“What’s left to do is to think about how we become a halal producer as the global hub,” Ma’ruf Amin said in a press conference after attending a seminar dubbed “Indonesia Goes to the World’s Center of Halal Producer” at the VP Palace in Jakarta, Saturday, Oct. 24.

As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, he said, Indonesia is a determining market in the world’s halal industry. However, Indonesia has only been providing halal labels for products produced by other countries.

“More than 50 halal certificate institutions in the world receive an endorsement from Indonesia. So, Indonesia has only been certifying halal products from many countries around the world,” said Maruf.

He, therefore, pushed all stakeholders in various industries to be able to take the advantage of the Indonesian halal market potential. One of the ways, Maruf went on, is by increasing halal product export, especially in the food and beverage industry.

Citing the Global Islamic Economic Report in 2019, the VP said the largest halal product producers are Brazil with an export value of US$5.5 billion and Australia with US$2.4 billion value.

“We have to utilize the world’s halal market potential by increasing our export, which currently only accounts for 3.8 percent of the total of the world’s halal market,” he remarked.
