IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The British government has praised Indonesia for checking the spread of coronavirus disease infections in the country, State Enterprises Minister and chief of the Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery, Erick Thohir, said.
“The success of Indonesia, as the world’s fourth most populous country, in curbing the pace of (COVID-19) pandemic will contribute significantly (to global efforts against the disease),” he said in a written statement released on Wednesday.
As a manifestation of appreciation from the UK and several other countries, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) has placed Indonesia’s state-owned pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma in the category of competent companies in terms of developing COVID-19 vaccines.
“CEPI’s due diligence given to Bio Farma shows a positive result in which CEPI is ready to cooperate with Bio Farma. Of course, this is appreciation for all researchers, pharmacists, and other parties involved in the development of Indonesia’s original vaccine. The quality of Bio Farma’s (products) has been recognized by the world,” the minister stated.
He said his meeting with the British government has yielded positive results for post-COVID-19 health and economic recovery.
The UK and Indonesia have both agreed that global cooperation is key to successfully navigating the pandemic, he added.
