Transitional PSBB; Children, Seniors Banned from Entering Malls

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Speaker of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Prasetio Edi Marsudi on Monday warned parents to not take their children along with them to visit malls and shopping centers, as the capital city has permitted malls to open after the transitional PSBB was set in place.

80 malls across Jakarta are starting to gradually open their businesses under strict health protocols that were introduced to help transition to what is known as the ‘new normal.’

“Managements must classify its visitors. If there is a child, don’t let them in. Convey it in the most humane way possible,” said Prasetio in a written statement.

Preventing children from visiting malls is one of the health protocol that mall managements are required to adhere to, apart from mandating the use of face masks, body temperature scan, and preventing senior citizens from entering malls.

During Jakarta’s transition period, malls are only permitted to serve visitors that intend to buy basic foodstuffs, pharmaceutical commodities, and food and beverages that could only be ordered for takeaway.

Popular mall facilities such as movie theaters and children’s play area have yet been opened for the public. The DPRD speaker also hoped that the reopening of malls will push mall management to employ people again following the series of layoffs that happened during the large-scale social restriction (PSBB).
