Trans Java Toll to Be Extended until Bali, Says PUPR Ministry

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the ministry would extend the Trans Java toll road from its current end to Bali Island.

“We will extend this toll road to Bali Island,” said Basuki in an online meeting of the Indonesia-Turkey Construction Business Forum in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 23.

He said the 1,350-kilometer-long toll road that has been operated since 2019 connects the western end to the eastern end of the Java island.

Minister Basuki explained the investment potential in the toll roads, including Trans Sumatra, dam projects, and others before Turkish contractors and investors attended the session.

In the forum meeting attended by the Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan and Indonesian Ambassador in Turkey Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, Basuki also elaborated on several Indonesia’s achievements on infrastructure projects.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo decided to tap infrastructure development as the top priority in the 2019-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). Thus, to realize the target, partnerships with friendly countries are necessary, both in the form of investment and expertise or technology of construction fields.

Previously, Basuki mentioned that nine other toll road projects had been prepared and would soon enter the prequalification auction in June-July 2020. Besides the toll road projects, the PUPR Ministry planned to auction off the project of a multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) e-toll system.

Other than the Trans Java toll, four toll roads were set to operate by the end of June 2020 in order to support national economic recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
