Tokyo Paralympics Athletes Receive Bonus from President Jokowi

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday welcomed the Indonesian athletes who participated in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics at the Bogor Presidential Palace. He announced a Rp5.5 billion bonus for gold medal athletes. 

“We hope this achievement can inspire us all, the athletes and the general public, to work hard to achieve the best for the nation,” said the President in his acceptance speech.

Three Indonesian athletes collected two gold medals in two badminton classes. They are Leani Ratri Oktila/Khalimatus Sadiyah in the women’s double and Hary Susanto/Leani Ratri Oktila for the mixed doubles. 

Winners of silver and bronze medals were also granted a Rp2.5 billion and Rp1.5 billion bonus respectively. The coaches of the athletes were also given money prizes by the government. 

Overall, Indonesia ranks 43 in the Tokyo Paralympics after collecting 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals from badminton, weightlifting, 100-meter dash, and table tennis.
