Tempo Media Director Toriq Hadad Passes Away

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Director of PT Tempo Inti Media Toriq Hadad passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Tempo Media chief of corporate news Arif Zulkifli confirmed the news. He said that Toriq Hadad died at Pondok Indah Hospital (RSPI), Jakarta, early on Saturday, after being treated for two weeks. “In RSPI at 05: 15,” said Arif.

He had served as Tempo Magazine Editor in Chief in the 2006-2010 period, replacing Bambang Harymurti. After his period had ended, Toriq was replaced by Wahyu Muryadi. Toriq then served as PT Tempo Inti Media director in 2017.

The man who was born in Surabaya in 1960 was a graduate of Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) in 1984, and he joined Tempo as a reporter after he graduated.

Toriq had served as the East Java Bureau chief in 1987-1989, the Jakarta Bureau chief in 1992-1994 until Tempo was banned in 1994, during Soeharto’s presidency.

The ban did not stop him. A year after the ban, Toriq, late Yusril Djalinus, and a number of reporters established the first Indonesian online news platform: Tempo Interaktif, the pioneer or Tempo.co. Until the end of his life, Toriq Hadad continued to strengthen the convergence pattern (the grouping of print, online, and television) in Tempo Media Group.
