Serious Drop in PeduliLindungi Check-Ins Raises Concerns: Govt

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in a virtual press conference on Monday revealed there had been a significant drop in the use of the PeduliLindungi tracing app.

This came ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays which over the years saw a rise in community mobility.

“This week alone, 74 percent of regions across Java and Bali saw a drop in PeduliLindungi check-ins compared to the week before. We must crucially pay attention to this,” said Luhut in the press conference on December 13.

The dropping number of users not checking-in with their PeduliLindungi app is also evident in the transportation sector, shopping centers, and recreation sites. Luhut urged local administrations to ensure that only healthy people are publicly active.

“I ask for regional governments and policy stakeholders to conduct massive enforcement related to the use of PeduliLindungi in the three aforementioned sectors,” he said.

Luhut also reminded people that the COVID-19 pandemic had not ended, and that society must collectively avoid sparking another coronavirus wave, especially ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
