Reports Say Jokowi Will Enforce ‘PPKM Darurat’

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Rumors say that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will announce the enforcement of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions or PPKM Darurat on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

A source from the Health Ministry said the scenario for this emergency restriction was similar to the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). In the new policy, traveling outside the region will be allowed. “But on condition that they have been vaccinated [against Covid-19] and undergone PCR test [with the negative result],” said the source on Tuesday.

It was also said that this policy was taken after considering the skyrocketing number of Covid-19 cases in the archipelago. In the past week alone, Indonesia kept breaking a new record of the highest single-day increase, until it peaked on June 27, 2021, with more than 21,000 new infections.

A number of regions have also become large infection clusters, such as Kudus in Central Java, Bangkalan in East Java, and Bandung in West Java.

The government has imposed the micro-scale PPKM or Micro PPKM since February 2021. After several extensions, President Jokowi decided to tighten the Covid-19 restrictions policy in the middle of June. However, the Covid-19 trend continued to rise.
