Religious Ministry Introduces Govt-sanctioned Friday Sermon Materials

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Religious Affairs Ministry on Tuesday announced that the government will start to supply materials for Friday prayers’ sermons (khutbah) in order to prevent provocative sermons from emerging in mosques.

“What we need now are Friday prayer sermon materials that are responsive and relevant to the current development,” wrote the Religious Affairs Ministry’s director-general of Islamic education, Kamaruddin Amin, on October 20.

“Intellectual Friday sermons” that are opposite of any “provocative materials” are included by the government in the 2020-2024 strategic plan. The materials can be downloaded at http://simbi.kemenag.go.id/.

The director-general explained in the circular that the “government-sanctioned sermons” are free of charge and that options will include sermons that cater to the millennial generation, which the religious affairs ministry views as an essential part of the current social structure.

Kamaruddin claims that it is time for the house of worship to be the center of peaceful religious moderations that supports a peaceful Islam which acts as the bedding for religious and patriotic stability.
