IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Health Ministry on Tuesday officially announced that Covid-19 vaccination will continue as planned despite entering the first day of Ramadan – an Islamic holy month where Muslims are fasting from dawn to sunset.
The government cited a fatwa issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) under the code No.13/2021 on Covid-19 vaccination amid fasting which states that the act of injecting vaccines into one’s body does not annul a person’s fasting sanctity.
“Based on that recommendation, vaccinations will continue as planned throughout Ramadan for both Muslims and non-muslims,” wrote the Health Ministry vaccination spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi in the ministry’s official website on April 13.
She explains that the vaccinations are available during the day and the evening which will cater to activities for both those who are practicing religious fasting and those who don’t. Tarmizi said there are no special preparations to conduct this program but reminds vaccine recipients to keep their physical health at their best prior to vaccination.
“People shouldn’t worry about being vaccinated amid fasting as our body does not get affected by vaccine shots even if we are fasting,” said Tarmizi.
