Public Satisfaction with Jokowi Dwindles in Times of Pandemic: Pollster

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Public satisfaction with the performance of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo decreased compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic, pollster Populi Center revealed its survey results on Monday, November 9, 2020.

The survey, conducted on October 21-30, 2020 in 100 regencies/cities, found that 60.7 percent of respondents were satisfied with the Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin administration (53.2 percent was content and 7.5 percent was highly content), down from the survey results in November 2019 at 65.1 percent.

“The decline in the satisfaction level in Joko Widodo’s performance is attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic, which renders the government’s performance less optimal,” said researcher Nurul Fatin Afifah in a written statement.

Additionally, 36.1 percent of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s performance (33.3 percent was not content and 2.8 percent was highly dissatisfied). The figure soared from the previous survey of 17.7 percent.

Based on the survey results, there were supporting factors behind public satisfaction with the pair’s performance. The public viewed President Jokowi’s social assistance program for health workers as the most satisfactory factor, followed by health policies, cash aid, natural disaster mitigation, and basic education.

The survey was carried out through face-to-face interviews with 1,000 respondents under multistage random sampling. The margin of error was 3.10 percent with a confidence level of 95 percent.
