President Jokowi Calls for Pilkada Elections to be Closely Monitored

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in opening Monday’s limited meeting ordered the Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and the Indonesian National Police Chief General Idham Azis to closely monitor the political atmosphere ahead of the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada) which is 2-weeks away. 

The president ordered them to enforce discipline towards the government’s COVID-19 health protocol. 

“Enforce the law and enforce strict health protocol discipline especially during election day and the last days of the political campaigns,” said Jokowi on November 23. 

The president also reminded regional task force teams to handle the pandemic which will help suppress the number of coronavirus pandemic but at the same time save the economy. 

Jokowi claims the strict-slackened social restrictions already implemented in the country has shown results as November 22 recorded 12.78 percent active COVID-19 cases that is well under the world’s 28.41 percent average active coronavirus cases.
