Pre-employment Card; KPK Finds Rp30 Billion Potential Waste

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced that it found potential waste and inefficiency in the procurement of the government’s pre-employment card program. One striking item under KPK’s scrutiny is the face recognition feature that validates the participants.

“The face recognition is unnecessary, replacing it with a citizenship identification number (NIK) will be enough,” said KPK’s director of prevention, Pahala Nainggolan at his office on Friday, June 19.

According to the anti-graft watchdog, the pre-employment card executive management needs Rp5,500 to identify each face of the participants. With participants reaching Rp5.6 million, this would rack up the total cost to Rp30.8 billion.

Pahala Nainggolan argues that management would only need to replace the use of facial recognition to NIK that is already written down in each Indonesian citizen’s ID card (KTP). He says the NIK data can be used to validate the participants and prevent double-data from ever occurring.

Following their finding, KPK officially recommends the pre-employment program management to make use of the NIK code to validate participants and annul the option to use facial recognition.
