Prabowo Says House Agrees to Raise Military Budget

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto presented his ministry’s budget plan for 2021 to the Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR).

According to him, all factions of the Commission on defense supported the increase in budget for the Indonesian Military or TNI.

Alhamdulillah, [we receive] huge support from all factions for the TNI to be strengthened,” said the minister after a working meeting with the DPR’s Commission I on Thursday, June 18.

The Gerindra Party’s chief patron said that Indonesia was dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic this year, and so he understood that the government’s priority is the virus mitigation.

The existing budget is focused to assist the people and healthcare workers, provide health services, and economic recovery.

“For the future plan, all factions want the TNI to be strengthened, so Indonesia will be stronger,” Prabowo added.

The Military Commander Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto also attended the meeting. Based on the House’s daily schedule, there were three agendas for the session: discussion on the budget plan (RKA), the government’s working plan (RKP) of Defense Ministry in 2021, and on actual issues related to the readiness of the ministry and TNI to deal with security threats in the country.
