Pollycarpus Dies of Covid-19

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, a former convict in the murder case of Human Rights activist Munir Said Thalib, died of Covid-19 today. His former attorney Wirawan Adnan received the news from Pollycarpus’ wife, Yosephine Hera Iswandari.

Wirawan said that Pollycarpus was treated at the hospital for 16 days. “He passed away today at 14: 52. [He died] of C19 after 16 days fought for it,” he said when contacted on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Pollycarpus was sentenced to 14 years in prison. The verdict was lighter than that of the Supreme Court ruling on January 25, 2008, which was 20 years imprisonment. He was freed in August 2018.

Many protested his conditional release but Pollycarpus said he had followed all the procedures.

He, however, maintained that he was not guilty in the murder case of the human rights activist Munir. “I don’t think I’m guilty,” Pollycarpus said before he left Sukamiskin Penitentiary, the place where he spent his prison sentence.
