IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Hasto Kristiyanto in a statement on Monday congratulated and conveyed his appreciation towards the badminton athletes who successfully made Indonesia win the Thomas Cup on Sunday.
“Badminton is proven as Indonesia’s symbol of supremacy in global sports. Congratulations, it is really heartwarming as the Thomas Cup is back in Indonesian hands,” the PDIP secretary-general wrote on October 18.
Hasto also attributed the win to the leadership of fellow party member and President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Hasto mentioned in his statement about the President’s contribution to holding the 2019 Asian Games, achievements in the Olympics and Paralympics, and the hosting of the 20th National Games in Papua. These achievements, he said, showed President Jokowi’s exceptional attention towards sports that eventually uplifted the spirit of the entire Indonesian athletes, Hasto said.
“The success of Indonesia’s badminton team cannot be separated from the leadership of President Jokowi, who provided positive energy in the form of self-confidence as a large nation,” he wrote. “It is not easy to defeat China, but amid the major self confidence, Indonesia successfully showed its prominence in badminton to be champions.”
Moreover, he hoped that the Thomas Cup win would eventually spur the confidence of athletes competing in the Uber Cup. Indonesia has long awaited to reclaim the Thomas Cup after failing to win it for 29 years.
