Police to Continue Turning Back Mudik Vehicles until May 24

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The 2021 Ketupat Operation will not be extended and still end on May 17, 2021, according to the Chief of Operations Department of the National Police Traffic Corps, Sr. Comr. Rudy Antariksa.

“The Ketupat Operation will end on May 17, 2021, followed by the Increased Routine Police Activities (KRYD) from May 18-24, 2021,” he said on Friday, May 14, 2021.

Rudy said police personnel would remain stationed at blocking and checkpoint posts until May 24 and turn back vehicles insisting on making mudik (homecoming) trips.

The government has imposed a mudik (homecoming) ban on all elements of society, including state civil apparatuses (ASN), members of the Indonesian Military and the Indonesian Police (TNI/Polri), private employees and entrepreneurs.

The police deployed 166,734 personnel to safeguard 381 blocking posts nationwide during the operation.

National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo has called on his personnel to continue disseminating information and educating people on the mudik ban.

“Stay patient and disseminate information [on the ban] to homecoming travelers, with the hopes that our families will not contract COVID-19, this should continue,” he said in a written statement on May 13, 2021.
