Police Main HQ Responds to Alleged Police Personnel Data Breach

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police Main Headquarters (Mabes Polri) spokesperson Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said that the police’s cyber crime unit is investigating the alleged data breach of the institution’s personnel database.

“It is being investigated by the cyber crime criminal investigation unit,” said Prasetyo to Tempo on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

Responding to inquiries over the server that had been allegedly breached by hackers, Prasetyo said that more information will be announced later. “We will provide more information once there is an update,” Prasetyo said.

As reported earlier today, a self-proclaimed hacker under a Twitter account @son1x666 claimed to have broken into the data of the National Police members. “You just got hacked b!” the account tweeted, claiming to be from Brazil on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

The account listed three sites in its post. One of which shows a message and is suspected to be a list of violations committed by police members. The list includes the policemen’s name, rank, work unit, last position, address, ethnicity, and sanctions.

The hacker also claimed that the crime was carried out alone. “I’m doing this because I don’t support the government and the way they treat their own people,” the account wrote.

Many Indonesians, the hacker said, contacted him and told him about the situation. So he helped them as much as he could. “This is the reason I did this,” he said.
