Police: Drugs Being Delivered through Online Delivery Services

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The South Jakarta Police’s drug unit on Monday announced it had foiled numerous drug trafficking cases utilizing online courier services throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

“Several of their M.O.’s used the services of online courier services,” said drug unit chief Comr. Wadi Sa’bani at the South Jakarta Police headquarters on November 16.

He revealed that the drugs, which were mostly marijuana and trafficked through land-based delivery services, mostly hailed from Sumatra Island and would be distributed in Jakarta and Banten. The drop-off locations, according to the police, were determined by the drug owners.

“The [drug packages] were mixed along with other items using popular online package delivery services many people use,” said Wadi.

He added this type of drug trafficking could endanger the couriers as they could be incriminated in such cases. Thus, he advised delivery couriers to double check their packages and make sure they are not being used as a tool in drug trafficking.
