Police Assert No Criminalization Against Farid Okbah

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The National Police spokesman Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono emphasized there was no attempt made by the counterterrorism squad, Densus 88, to criminalize anyone in dealing with terrorism.

“I say this again, no attempts made by Densus 88 to criminalize anyone. This includes the activity (arrests) carried out in Bekasi on November 16,” said Rusdi at a press conference at the Police HQ, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 17.

Rusdi explained that terrorism activities disrupt public security and order and even disrupt the life of the nation and state. Thus, the National Police is given the authority to deal with terrorism through Densus 88.

“What Densus did is through a long process, not just an incidental process but the result of a long profiling and monitoring process,” he added.

On November 16, Densus 88 arrested three people allegedly involved in the terrorist activities of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group in Bekasi. They are Ahmad Zain An-Najah, Farid Ahmad Okbah, and Anung Al Hamat.

The arrest of Ahmad Zain An-Najah dragged the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) given his status as a member of the Fatwa Commission. MUI officially dismissed Ahmad Zain An-Najah as its member on Wednesday.
