No More Home Isolation; Jakarta Governor Threatens Forced Pick-up by Authorities

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that people who tested positive for Covid-19 must be isolated in places provided by the government. If they refuse, they will be forcibly picked up by health workers and law enforcement officers.

“Starting tomorrow, everyone who are positive are required to be isolated in a controlled manner in a designated place,” he said on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

Home isolation is no longer allowed for positive cases. Anies said that the method could risk Covid-19 transmission to family members, creating what he calls “family clusters”.

“This has happened, because not everyone has sufficient knowledge and experience to minimize the risks of infecting others,” he said.

Starting today, September 14, Jakarta is re-implementing a lockdown—known locally as large scale social restriction or PSBB.

Anies stated that Tower 4 and 5 of the Kemayoran Athlete Hospital Emergency Hospital, with a capacity of more than 2,500 rooms, are prepared to treat people without symptoms (OTG) or mild symptoms who are exposed to Covid-19.

Anies Baswedan said that the Jakarta administration is still looking for other alternatives to prepare a place of care for positive patients, including the possibility of turning a sports arena (GOR) into idnewsnowrary quarantine compounds.
