MPR Speaker Turns Down Calls to Dissolve MUI

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo stated he disagrees with demands to disband the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). He asked all celebrations to refrain themselves.

” I personally decline and ask all parties to work out restraint,” Bambang stated at the Corruption Obliteration Commission Structure in Jakarta, Thursday, November 25.

He stated MUI is an institution that has existed for a long period of time, and which the public need. He stated the alleged participation of one of MUI’s administrators in a terrorist company can not be used as a factor for its dissolution as an institution.

The Golkar Celebration political leader stated the case is being handled by the cops. “Don’t damage the MUI institution,” he said.

On social media, the need for the dissolution of MUI is extensively discussed. It is not known who started the discourse. The talks began following the arrest of MUI Fatwa Commission member Ahmad Zain an-Najah by the anti-terror quad Densus 88 under suspicions of being associated with terrorism.

Following the arrest, MUI shut down Ahmad Zain.
