More than 20,000 Violated Health Protocols in Jakarta in Just 4 Days

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Authorities in the Jakarta Metro Area have recorded 22,801 people violating health protocols—including wearing masks—in just four days. The police have rolled out a mask patrol since the start of this week, known as the Yustisi Operation.

Jakarta Metro Police PR chief, Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus, said the violators are from Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi City.

Some of the violators paid fines while others given community service sentences or just reprimanded by officers.

“The fines they paid have amounted to Rp191,233,500,” Yusri told Tempo on Friday, 18 September 2020.

In the Operation Yustisi, the Jakarta Metro Police join hands with the TNI and the Jakarta Provincial Government; deploying 6,800 officers across the metro area.

Operation Yustisi is held to maintain health discipline in the capital, after the transition period failed to curb Covid-19 transmission—resulting in spikes of new cases.

Governor Anies Baswedan reinstated the social restriction — known locally as the PSBB, restricting workplaces to operate with no more than 25 percent capacity and closing all entertainment and tourism venues.
