Mobility of Kepulauan Seribu Residents Hampered by PSBB

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) from the PKS faction requested the city administration to not make things difficult for residents of Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) amidst the COVID-19 pandemic after the council’s transportation commission speaker, Abdul Aziz, received complaints from island residents.

“I immediately contacted the Jakarta transportation agency once the report came in. They must help accommodate the islanders’ need for transportation to work at the Jakarta mainland,” Abdul Aziz wrote in his statement today.

Residents of Kepulauan Seribu residents complained to the DPRD members after several of them were unable to travel to the mainland amidst the large-scale social restriction (PSBB), even though stringent health requirements were already met by the island residents.

Most of the complaints are related to the unavailability of boats or ships at significant ports from Jakarta’s mainland and islands that comprise the Kepulauan Seribu or Thousand Islands.

Fortunately, following a number of reports that were followed up, transports from and to the islands were fixed and are now available.
