Military, Police Join Forces to Investigate Attack on Ciracas Police HQ

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police together with the Jakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya) have joined forces in establishing a team that is tasked to investigate the chilling attack on East Jakarta’s Ciracas Police headquarters on Saturday, August 29, by nearly 100 of unidentified men.

“We have joined forces by creating a joint team to uncover this incident,” said Metro Jaya Police spokesperson, Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus in Jakarta on Sunday. “Abiding by regulations, everyone has their authority in the investigation process.”

The involvement of police in the case is based on initial investigations, after it was known that a number of civilians were misled to be involved in the attack by a military (TNI) personnel identified as second private M.I.

The Metro Jaya Police are tasked to arrest the suspects of the attack who are civilians. This case grabbed public attention as eyewitness reports described some of the attackers resembling those coming from a military background.

Commissioner Yusri urged members of the public who became victims of the attack to file reports. “File the report and we will follow it up. If the perpetrators turn out to be a military [TNI] personnel, we will hand it over to the Jakarta Military Police (Pomdam Jaya). We will handle the civilian attackers,” said Yusri Yunus.

The attack on the Ciracas Police headquarters in East Jakarta resulted in a number of police operational vehicles destroyed and burned along with other damages to the police headquarters. Two police officers who were on patrol were also injured due to the attack.
