Megawati: What Contribution that Millennial Generation Has Made to the Country?

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Chairperson of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Sukarnoputri, asked President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo not to spoil the millennial generation.

“We must not spoil the young people, the millennial generation. I want to ask this today, what is the contribution of the millennial generation who acknowledge technology, that we can go viral without having to meet face to face?” said Megawati in an online inauguration of her party’s office in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

She opined that millennials could only stage demonstrations, recalling recent rallies against the Job Creation Law. “What is your (the youth) contribution to this nation and country?”

Megawati lamented public facilities that were destroyed during the mass protests in the last few days, such as the Transjakarta bus stop and MRT Jakarta station.

“How come [millennial generation] can only hold demonstrations. I will be bullied because of this later, but I don’t care. Is there a rule that allows destruction [of public facilities] during a rally? None. If someone says it exists, meet me. Let me know,” she remarked.

Megawati said that demonstrations are permissible since the reform era. However, she emphasized that no regulations are allowing the destruction of public facilities.
