Ma’ruf Amin: Govt Preps Economic Recovery of Sharia Finance

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin stated on Tuesday, June 9, that the government was preparing a policy regarding the scheme of economic recovery and sharia finance affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the efforts to revive the country’s economy.

“We are preparing it so that the economic and financial recovery plan must also concern the sharia economy and finance. Because this [pandemic] affects sharia banks, BMT (Baitul Maal wa Tamwil or Islamic Financial Service Cooperative), BPRS (sharia rural banks), too,” said Ma’ruf in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 9.

The government is striving to improve the country’s economy by providing a stimulus that Ma’ruf opined must involve the sector of the Islamic economy and finance.

“Therefore, KNEKS (the National Sharia Economy and Finance Committee) is designing its plan to recover sharia economy and finance from Covid-19,” the VP remarked.

The economic recovery efforts had become one of the government’s reasons to halt the enforcement of the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) order and commenced the transition period to a new normal era.

“The government is drafting regulations, policies on stimulus for economic recovery. This drives us to enter a new normal phase,” Ma’ruf Amin noted.
