Kominfo Ministry Shares Guide to Safely Using Pedulilindungi App

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Data security in the government’s Covid-19 surveillance app Pedulilindungi was widely questioned after cybersecurity research company vpnMentor revealed an alleged data leak. The Police Cyber Team recently found that there was no data breach. The case was then terminated.

The Communication and Information (Kominfo) Ministry expert staff Devie Rahmawati suggested the public download the Pedulilindungi app from official sources, such as App Store and Google Playstore.

“Do not download it from a link claimed as an access to Pedulilindungi circulated on Whatsapp which turns out to be a link made by irresponsible persons who aim at collecting personal data,” said Devie in an online discussion on Wednesday, September 8.

She said issues related to data security from the app were actually started with the people themselves. According to her, there were still many people who disclosed their sensitive data publicly.

“The previous case is not because the Pedulilindung system that is not safe, but there were people who took other people’s data to access the app feature,” she explained.

Devie also appealed to the public not to take selfies with their Identity Card (KTP) or recklessly put their Family Cards (KK) for their own safety.

To date, the Pedulilindungi app has already had 39,886,900 users and had been used in 4,637 public facilities, such as stations, offices, hotels malls, and sports facilities.
