Jokowi: We Must Not Give Way to Second Wave of COVID-19

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Tuesday’s teleconference from Central Java reminded Indonesians that the threat of COVID-19 has yet ended and called for everyone to abide by existing health protocols and reminded regional administrations to avert from issuing policies that would give way to the second wave of coronavirus.

“The threat remains high, the conditions are equally dynamic. This is why we must make sure that the second wave of coronavirus does not emerge,” said President Jokowi on June 30.

The president also asked regional administrations to tread carefully in managing the crisis, especially in terms of managing healthcare issues and the economy parallel to each other.

“Don’t loosen the [social restrictions] without having sufficient brakes. Having an acceptable economy but eventually seeing COVID-19 cases rise,” said the president.

Jokowi explained that the transitional period between the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) to the new normal needs to go through stages that are based on scientific data and experts’ opinions. He made sure that local governments should not hastily embrace the new normal period if the condition does not make it possible.
