Jokowi Talks of Support for Palestine Independence in 75th UN General Assembly

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reaffirmed the support of Indonesia for Palestine in the 75th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. The speech was delivered virtually as broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

According to the President, Indonesia would continue to promote the spirit of cooperation that provides mutual benefits for all parties without leaving no country behind.

The respect for equality, he added, was emphasized by the country’s founding fathers, Soekarno, during the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955, which concluded in the Bandung Principles. To date, the principles remained relevant in peaceful settlement of disputes, promotion of partnerships, and respect for international law.

“Palestine is the only country that attended the Bandung Conference, and until now, has not enjoyed its independence. Indonesia consistently supports Palestine to gain its rights,” Jokowi remarked.

Indonesia among other ASEAN countries, he went on, would continue to maintain Southeast Asia as a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region. Besides, on its 53rd anniversary on August 8, 2020, ASEAN reasserted its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

“Indonesia encourages the same spirit of cooperation and peace to a wider region, the Indo-Pacific region, through the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific,” Jokowi said.
