Jokowi: Situation Will Back to Normal Once Covid-19 Vaccination Begins

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has again promised the public that Indonesia will recover from the pandemic when the Covid-19 vaccine can be distributed to the public.

“If the vaccine starts to be injected [to the public], the situation will return to normal again. There will be around 170-180 million people [who will get the vaccine first], and that will take several months. So, this requires hard work from all of us,” said Jokowi before street vendors at Jakarta Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, September 30.

However, he stopped short of detailing the classification of people who will be prioritized for the vaccination.

On Monday, September 28, Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto revealed the government’s six priority groups for the vaccination that targeted 102.45 million people as cited from the document of the Covid-19 Mitigation Committee and National Economic Recovery (KPC-PEN).

Among the six groups are front line people in the virus mitigation totaling 1.31 million, those who have come into close contact with someone who has the virus amounting to 50,000, and 715,000 public service officers.

Besides, the general public amounting to 92.28 million, 4.36 million educators, and 3.72 million state apparatus or civil servants and legislators will be included in the priority group as well.

The Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito, meanwhile, said that it was not a final list.

“We are still studying the priority groups based on the level of the risk,” said Wiku in a virtual press conference broadcasted via the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube’s channel on Tuesday, September 29.
