Jokowi: Pandemic Teaches Us To Be More Independent

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo highlighted the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia during his virtual speech for the opening of a grand conference of GP Ansor, the youth wing of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), today, September 18.

“The pandemic also provides valuable lessons to all of us about the importance of being independent, to stand on our own feet,” said the President.

Jokowi said because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia could work on its shortcomings and strengthen the aspects that were still deemed weak, including economic independence.

“Thus, I ask all GP Ansor members, wherever they are, to be proud of and love domestic products, buy and promote products of local farmers, local fishermen, and micro, small, and medium enterprises,” he remarked.

Jokowi believed that this joint movement would not only help the lives of farmers, fishermen, and SMEs but also keep the national economy on the move.

“So not only our country would recover from the threat of the pandemic’s impact, but the economy can improve to normal,” he said.
