IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ordered local governments to establish a regional research and innovation agency or BRIDA through the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 33/2021 concerning the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
“BRIDA must be formed or can be integrated with regional apparatus within no later than 2 (two) years since this Presidential Decree Regulation is promulgated,” as quoted from Article 72 of the decree signed and released on April 28, 2021.
The decree mandates provincial and regency or city administration to form BRIDA which is tasked to conduct research, development, assessment, and implementation, as well as inventions and innovations that are integrated with the regions.
Article 63 (2) of Perpres 33/2021 also mandates the formation of BRIDA to be integrated with other regional agencies that carry out government affairs in the development planning or research and development.
BRIN will evaluate the duties and functions of BRIDA. The regional agency in carrying out its tasks will use the regional budget (APBD) or other legitimate and non-binding financing sources in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations.
