Jokowi on Job Creation Law: Changes Often Lead to Worry

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo touched on the newly-enacted Law No. 11/2020 or the Job Creation Law during his remarks today, November 11, at the commemoration of the 9th Anniversary of Nasdem Party.

According to Widodo, the omnibus law is part of the change in the regulatory system which aimed at accelerating domestic industrialization.

“That is the spirit behind the issuance of the Job Creation Law which is also intended to bolster industrialization in the country and strengthen strategic sectors, especially food, health, and energy sector,” said the state head as broadcasted on the NasDem TV YouTube channel.

However, he acknowledged that changes usually spark debates and worry. “Every change, every restoration, particularly the major one, often leads to worry and misunderstandings. Moreover, if it is not communicated properly within sufficient time,” Widodo remarked.

The Job Creation Law has been officially ratified and inked by President Jokowi and passed on November 2, 2020. The government was speeding to deliberate 44 derivative regulations following the law enactment. Meanwhile, labor unions and other civil society coalitions challenged the omnibus law to the Constitutional Court.
