Jokowi Asks for Standardization of Community Face Masks, Strengthen Tracing

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asked for the standardization of community face masks during a closed meeting with cabinet ministers in the Jakarta State Palace today, February 3, 2021.

“The President asked for a standardization of masks used by the community so that it is effective [to use amid the pandemic],” said the Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee (KPC-PEN) Chairman, Airlangga Hartarto, at a press conference after the meeting.

According to Airlangga, the President kept emphasizing that the key to containing the Covid-19 pandemic is at the upstream which is the implementation of health protocols, such as wearing face masks, washing hands, and physical distancing.

The state head also encouraged the active role of Babinsa, (village supervisory non-commissioned officers), Babinkamtibmas (village security and public order officers), Public Order Agency or Satpol PP, the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police’s (Polri) Yustisi operations to enforce the protocols in the community, he added.

Additionally, Airlangga stated that Jokowi demanded officials strengthen the testing, contact tracing, and treatment. Babinsa and TNI/Polri would not only be tasked to ensure the implementation of the health protocols but also help to trace Covid-19 cases.

“The Health Ministry will hire more officers to carry out tracing in the field, and this will involve Babinsa and Babinkamtibmas,” said Airlangga.
