IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – A group of laborers in North Jakarta protested at the area of Tanjung Priok, announcing that it will prepare a couple of legal steps to respond to the passing of the job creation bill (UU Cipta Kerja) on Monday.
The first step they consider taking is by filing for a judicial review at the Constitutional Court (MK) and echoing a vote of no-confidence against the House of Parliament (DPR). “That is our strategy to fight it,” said the protest’s orator on Wednesday, October 7.
This is the second time the workers in the area have taken to the streets while continuing to abide by physical distancing protocol. The protesters were from the Unloading Workers Union (STKBM), Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress (KASBI), the Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KPBI), and the Indonesian Metal Workers Union Federation (FSPMI).
Previously reported, the Agrarian Reform Consortium (KPA) announced that it rejects the Job Creation Law in its entirety which had just been passed by the Indonesian parliament (DPR).
KPA secretary Dewi Kartika on Wednesday, October 7, asserted that it would also be filing for judicial review at the Constitutional Court (MK). “The KPA will challenge the Law in the Constitutional Court judicial review.”
The KPA and the community alliance have been resisting the job creation law’s draft through a number of protests since July up to September this year.
