Jakarta to Close Markets as Traders Tested Positive for Covid-19

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Central Jakarta Mayor Bayu Meghantara planned to close a number of traditional markets after traders found to be tested positive for Covid-19. The planned idnewsnowrary closure will be coordinated with the city-run market operator PD Pasar Jaya.

“We will coordinate with the market manager. Because there should be first cleaning, [markets must be] sprayed with disinfectant to prevent further spreading of Covid-19 in the markets,” said Bayu in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 10.

The mayor appealed to the public, both buyers and sellers, to maintain strict health protocols.

Several markets that will be closed idnewsnowrarily include Sabeni Market after twelve traders’ rapid tests turned out to be reactive and Rawa Kerbau Market due to two traders infected with the new coronavirus.

According to Bayu, the closure requires coordination with Pasar Jaya as it could affect the people’s economic activities. “We will coordinate this first. At least, we carry out cleaning today so people will understand that this is for common good,” he said.
